25th June declared as ‘Samvidhan Hatya Diwas’ remembering the struggle of Emergency in 1975 by Indira Gandhi’s Government

Central Government decided to observe June 25 as ‘Samvidhan Hatya Divas’ the day when Emergency was declared in India in year 1975, Union Home Minister Amit Shah declared on July 12.

Samvidhan Hatya Diwas to be observed on 25th June every year.

Government of India has decided that 25th June will be observed as ‘Samvidhan Hatya Diwas’ every year. Union Home Minister Amit Shah said in a statement that, “this day will commemorate the massive contributions of all those who endured the inhuman pains of the 1975 Emergency.”

On social media platform X, Shah said, “On 25 June 1975, the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, displaying her dictatorial mindset, strangled the soul of democracy of India by imposing emergency in the nation. Lakhs of people were put behind the bars for no reasons and no faults, and also voice of media was shut down.

The post further added, “the Government of India has decided to observe 25 June every year as ‘Samvidhaan Hatya Diwas’, to remind us of the immense contribution of all those people who suffered the inhuman pain of the 1975 Emergency.”

 

Shah said, “The decision made by the government led by PM Shri Narendra Modi Ji is intended to honor the spirit of millions who struggled to revive democracy despite facing inexplicable persecution at the hands of an oppressive government.”

He further added, The observance of ‘Samvidhaan Hatya Diwas’ will help keep the eternal flame of individual freedom and the defense of our democracy alive in every Indian, thus preventing dictatorial forces like the Congress from repeating those horrors.

The Gazette issued by Government of India stated, that the Emergency was made on june 25, 1975, where there was gross abuse of power by Government of Indira Gandhi and people were subjected to excesses and atrocities.

The Gazette also states, People of India have complete faith in Constitution of India and the power of India’s resilient democracy.

Therefore, Government of India declares June 25 as “Samvidhan Hatya Diwas” to pay respect to all those who suffered and fought against the gross abuse power of Indira Gandhi’s government during the periof of emergency and to recommit the people of India to not support in any manner such gross abuse of power, in future, Gazette stated.

Also Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on social media platform said, ” 25th June will be observed as Samvidhan Hatya Diwas to serve as a reminder of what happened when constitution of India was trampled over.


The President Droupadi Murmu addressed in house of Parliament stressing the Government’s unwavering faith in the Constitution. President invoked the Emergency of 1975, calling it “the biggest and darkest chapter of direct attack on the Constitution.”

In house of Parliament Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla said in his statement, “This House condemns the decision to impose the Emergency in 1975. We also appreciate the efforts of all those who stood against the Emergency, and fulfilled the responsibilities of protecting India’s democracy. The Congress caused damage to the Constitution of India. It imposed dictatorship in 1975. The Emergency is a blot on our history.”

Emergency suppressing all fundamental rights of democracy.

The day of Emergency saw the cancellation of civil liberties, mass arrests, the suspension of elections, and many more abuses by Congress Government.
